Don't Worry About A Thing

Updated: Aug 24, 2019

You probably have heard the catchy hook in the lyrics to Bob Marley's hit song Three Little Birds...

"Don't Worry About A Thing

'Cause every little thing is gonna be alright

Singin', don't worry about a thing

'Cause every little thing is gonna be alright

(If reading the lines doesn't ring any bells click play below and you'll recognize the tune)

You probably did not know that Bob's catchy chorus is actually his way of communicating a proven scientific technique for overcoming mental, emotional, and spiritual strongholds like worry and anxiety.

Dr. Caroline Leaf is a born again Christian with a PhD in Communication Pathology specializing in cognitive neuropsychology. She has a brilliant way of explaining how science and faith in God go hand in hand. I could try to summarize her use of quantum physics as a means for connecting science and Christianity or try to explain terms like epigenetic changes and neuroplasticity in the brain but I'll stay in my lane and just say this highly regarded neuropsychologist preaches the same "Don't Worry About A Thing" message as my man Bob Marley does!

Dr. Leaf has published many books in which she merges science and faith in God in a fascinating way. She speaks at medical, corporate, Christian, and educational conferences around the world and has stellar endorsements from leaders in each industry. I can tell you from personal experience that her 21 Day Brain Detox program works! The Apostle Paul wrote about the need to be transformed by the renewing of your mind (Romans 12:2) which is the very basis of the methods Dr. Leaf uses to teach people to flush worry and negativity out of their brain.

N.T. Wright is the Research Professor of New Testament and Early Christianity at St. Mary's College in the University of St. Andrews in Scotland and one of the most prolific bible scholars of the modern age. He has published extensive commentaries on the new testament and written over seventy books. Like Dr. Leaf he is a highly educated Christian scholar preaching that same "Don't Worry About a Thing" message in his unique way. In his book Paul and the Faithfulness of God Wright said "What we think has the power to bring life or death into the world, so we need to chose what we let into our heads wisely..." (Minneapolis: Fortress Press, 2013), 567

I am a worrier by nature. However, after years of training my brain to flush out fear and worry I have learned the value of the renewed mind that the Apostle Paul, Dr. Leaf, Dr. Wright, and even Bob Marley each profess in their own way. Each of these individuals communicates the same message in a unique and effective way. Each of them have contributed to the renewing of my mind. If you struggle with worry and anxiety they can help you too.

A simple trick that I had been doing years before I'd heard of Dr. Caroline Leaf or N.T. Wright was to look for and notice three little birds everywhere I go. When I see three little birds I cannot help but hear them singing that Bob Marley song to me -

singing "sweet songs of melodies pure and true,

singin' don't worry about a thing,

'cause every little thing is gonna be alright'"

It might be a little sappy or silly for some but it works for me! I still catch myself worrying about things but now when I do I quickly flush that toxicity out of my brain with a little help from Bob Marley and Dr. Caroline Leaf. If you like good music you've got to like that three little birds song. If so, I invite you to join me in keeping our eyes peeled for three little birds as a reminder to not worry. I see them everywhere I go every day. If the three little birds don't do it for you I hope you'll find some other reminder (your own "three little birds") to train your brain to steer clear of toxic thoughts like worry and fear.
